Description: | Excellent addition to the Seaport Series, in a stimulating and non-conciliatory portrait of Montreal by the well loved Canadian professor-humorist. Here are the discoverers, colonists, the early struggles, the French, English and American influence, the stimulus of trade and expansion, the men of opportunity drawn there, the growing pains and rebellion of 1837-39, education, sanitation, civic life, good times and bad, shipping, McGill University—and improvements for the future. Happy blend of subject and author—high readability for publicizing our neighbor to the north. —Kirkus Review [Suggest a different description.] |
