Pratt startles readers with the unexpected. "The Depression Ends," anticipates the end of the Depression by placing a banquet in the sky, to which all earth's poor are invited. "The Sea-Cathedral" transforms an iceberg into a metaphorical cathedral, only to leave it a cold-hearted tital of the sea. "From Stone to Steel" discloses primitive shadows lurking within civilized people, while "The 6000" transforms a locomotive into a titanic bull.
