Description:

The story of a six week voyage to see icebergs along the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador in the year 1859. The author was asked by the painter to accompany him on the voyage and keep a record of the trip. Interestingly, the artist is not named in the book, being referred to only as C----. He was a well known and respected artist at the time. His name was Frederic Edwin Church. It is believed that the release of the book was timed to bring attention to the completion and exhibit of the artwork inspired by the voyage. Church was a landscape painter and his works are found in galleries today. His painting titled "The Icebergs", inspired by the voyage, is considered a masterpiece and sold for $2.5 million in 1979. It hangs in the Dallas Museum of Art. [Suggest a different description.]
