Description:

Meet Jinny, the mail carrier for Little Bradmarsh, a very unusual profession for a woman in the time in which the story is set. Will Flynt saw her occupation as highly indecorous, if not grossly improper. Jinny’s lively tongue annoyed him so much he called her “a minx”, and thus these two entered on the long duel which could have only one ending. Jinny is a charming heroine, but her love story is only an excuse for a detailed picture of life in this particular section of rural England during the middle of the nineteenth centry. It is a leisurely full-flavored narrative of the lives of honest hard-working folk. Mr. Zangwill set out to capture the essense of Essex and has done so with the folks we meet and with his descriptions which have the quiet freshness and charm of the English countryside.—New York Times, August 10, 1919.
